The full details for Kiama and the South Coast

South of Shellharbour the coast changes character. The suburbs give way to green hills, dairy country and small seaside villages, and the towns become more spread out. Flowstate Electrical Co travels down from our base in Warilla to look after homes from Minnamurra through Kiama, out to Jamberoo and south to Gerringong, Gerroa and Berry.

You deal directly with Kalani, the licensed electrician who does the work. He will talk you through what is going on and what needs doing, in plain language.

Towns and villages we cover

  • Kiama, from the harbour and town centre to the newer homes on the hills
  • Kiama Downs, above Jones Beach
  • Minnamurra, at the mouth of the Minnamurra River
  • Jamberoo, the valley village and surrounding farms
  • Gerringong, above Werri Beach
  • Gerroa, overlooking Seven Mile Beach
  • Berry, the historic town and its surrounding acreage

Salt air is the constant

If there is one thing that ties this coastline together, it is salt. Strong winds carry sea spray well inland, and outdoor electrical fittings feel it. Wall lights, sensor lights, outdoor power points and meter boxes on exposed walls corrode faster here than in sheltered suburbs.

Corrosion is more than cosmetic. Once a fitting starts to break down, moisture gets in, and that often shows up as a safety switch that trips after rain or on a damp morning. Replacing the fitting with one suited to coastal conditions, and sealing it properly, usually fixes the problem for good. Our outdoor and security lighting work covers deck lights, garden lighting and sensor lights built for this kind of exposure.

Heritage homes and older cottages

Kiama and Berry in particular have a lot of older homes, from timber terraces and weatherboard cottages to 19th century buildings in Berry's town centre. Gerroa and Gerringong also have older holiday houses, some of them originally fibro shacks.

Older homes usually mean older wiring. Brittle cable insulation, old switchboards with rewireable fuses and no safety switches are common. When you are restoring or renovating, a careful rewire and a switchboard upgrade bring the house up to modern standards while leaving its character intact. We plan the work to keep disruption to original walls and ceilings as low as possible.

Rural properties and acreage

Around Jamberoo, Berry and the hills behind Gerringong, many homes sit on acreage with sheds, workshops, pumps and long driveways. Electrical supplies to outbuildings have often been extended over the years without much planning. A shed running off an extension lead, or equipment that trips the power, needs proper attention.

We install dedicated supplies to sheds and workshops with their own protection, add weatherproof outdoor power and fit sensor lighting so you can move around safely after dark. Some properties also add saunas, and customers have told us about the sauna installations we have done. A sauna heater needs a correctly sized dedicated circuit, and we can take care of that.

Holiday homes and new builds

Plenty of homes along this coast are holiday houses or rentals. For owners who are not always there, we recommend interconnected smoke alarms that meet NSW requirements, reliable safety switches and smart devices such as video doorbells, cameras and app controlled lighting.

If you live away from the coast and only visit on weekends, we can send photos and a plain summary of what we found and what we fixed, so you know the house is in good order before you arrive.

New builds and big renovations, especially in Gerringong and Kiama, bring the chance to plan the electrical layout properly from the start. We cover rough-in through to fit off, and we also do overflow work for builders and other tradies.

Emergencies down the coast

We are open 24 hours for emergency call outs. If a storm leaves you without power or a safety switch will not reset, call and explain what is happening. We will help you stay safe until we arrive.

Simple, clear, done right

Electrical work should be clear, reliable and done right the first time. Kalani explains things plainly, turns up on time and treats your home with care. Flowstate Electrical Co has a 5.0 star rating from 66 Google reviews and holds NSW electrical licence 450265C.
