D.H. Lawrence spent a few months in Thirroul in 1922 and wrote much of Kangaroo here, and it is easy to see why the place stuck with him. The escarpment rises straight up behind the town, the beach runs along the front, and the streets between are full of weatherboard cottages, renovated bungalows and newer architect designed homes. Thirroul has become one of the most sought after spots on the northern Illawarra coast.
