The full details for the Wollongong area
The Wollongong area stretches from the northern beach suburbs below the escarpment, through the city itself, down to the industrial south and out to the growing suburbs west of Lake Illawarra. Flowstate Electrical Co works right across it, travelling up from our base in Warilla.
You speak directly to Kalani, the licensed electrician who does the work. He will listen to what is going on, ask a few questions and give you a straight answer about what is needed.

Northern suburbs: character and coastal air
From Thirroul to Corrimal, the northern suburbs grew around coal mining. Many homes started as miners' cottages, weatherboard or fibro, and have been extended over the years. They have plenty of character, and often plenty of old wiring too.
Renovations are common here, and they are the right moment to deal with tired cabling. A rewire while the walls are open is far easier than trying to fix problems once everything is finished. Customers have told us Kalani rewired their house for a renovation and worked smoothly with their builder.
With the beach on one side and the escarpment on the other, moisture and salt air also affect outdoor fittings. Corroded outdoor lights and power points are a common cause of safety switches tripping after rain. Replacing them with fittings suited to the conditions, and sealing cable entries properly, is a small job that heads off a lot of frustration. Summer storms also roll off the escarpment with little warning, and older homes with tired wiring tend to feel it first.
The city and its surrounds
Wollongong itself is a mix of apartments, older cottages and established family homes. Apartment work tends to be about lighting, power points and smoke alarms. Older houses near the centre often need a switchboard upgrade, especially if they still have ceramic fuses and no safety switches. Figtree and Unanderra have plenty of homes from the 1960s to 1980s that have been extended, sometimes leaving a mix of new and old circuits on an outdated board.
The south: steel town and lake views
Port Kembla, Berkeley and Lake Heights are full of post-war brick and fibro homes. Many were built for steelworkers and their families, and many still have their original electrical systems. Safety upgrades are the priority here: modern switchboards, safety switches on every circuit and working smoke alarms. NSW requires working smoke alarms on every level of a home, and interconnected alarms are the safest option.
Kalani has found fire hazards in meter boxes during other jobs in older homes, so he always takes a careful look at the board whatever he came out for.
The western side of the lake
Dapto is one of the largest suburbs in the region, with established streets near the town centre and newer estates spreading toward Horsley and West Dapto. Kanahooka sits on the lake shore with homes that make the most of the water.
In the newer homes, the work is about adding what the builder left out: extra lighting, ceiling fans, outdoor power, sensor lights and smart home setups. Customers have told us Kalani fitted downlights inside and out on their new home. In older homes, the focus shifts to switchboards, safety switches and updated lighting.
Fault finding and emergencies
Some faults are easy. Others take patience: a safety switch that only trips when it rains, a circuit that goes dead now and then, lights that flicker for no clear reason. Customers have told us Kalani fixed problems other electricians could not resolve. Fault finding is something we take pride in.
We are open 24 hours for emergency call outs. If something has gone wrong, call and explain what is happening.
